On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Lumiere Art Gallery presents CHROMA by Her, a group exhibition bringing together ten women painters from the United States, Sweden, Lebanon, Russia, and England, all of whom live and create in Cyprus.
Following last year’s exhibition HER, which brought together international artists of different genders and geographic backgrounds, this year’s curatorial approach focuses exclusively on painting and on the female creative voice. CHROMA by Her highlights the dynamic presence of women artists who, although shaped by diverse cultural origins, have chosen Cyprus as their place of living and artistic development.
The title Chroma — the Greek word for color — serves as the central conceptual and visual axis of the exhibition. Color is not treated merely as a formal element, but as a carrier of emotion, memory, and identity. Through works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, the artists explore the relationship between light and matter, intensity and transparency, gesture and introspection.
Painting becomes a shared ground of encounter, where diverse experiences are translated into a rich chromatic and expressive polyphony. From bold, expressive gestures to more contemplative and delicate renderings, the works form a cohesive visual dialogue that reflects both the individual journey of each artist and their collective presence on the island.
CHROMA by Her is conceived as an act of recognition and inclusion. It presents the participating artists not as “foreign” creators, but as an active and integral part of Cyprus’s contemporary art scene. The exhibition celebrates the female painterly gaze, the power of color as expression, and the significance of belonging through artistic practice.
The exhibition opens on 8 March at 7h p.m., inviting the public to engage with a body of work that articulates a dialogue around femininity, cultural identity, and creative coexistence.
