Anne Podevyn is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Lokeren, Belgium and in Paris, France. She studied at Luca School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium and followed live model painting at the ENSBA (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts) in Paris.
Her artistic practice includes drawing and painting with oil on canvas or wood, ink, and watercolour on paper. Recently, she added paintings inspired on Japanese calligraphy to her oeuvre. The subjects of her paintings are often devoted to the human form inspired from live model drawing, Art History, the mass media, personal photographs, memories.
In her art, Anne Podevyn sets out to reflect the poetry of the world around us. Artistic creation is like an inner dialogue, a “transfer of energy.” Action and gestures are made intuitively, manipulating the paint, using calligraphic lines.
It is about searching, creating, discovering, where “nothing” changes into “something;” a narrative that opens itself to interpretation.
Anne has had solo exhibitions at the Cultural Centre Lokeren, as well as in Waasmunster, Belgium. She has also participated in collective shows in Ghent, Antwerp and Lokeren (Belgium), and in Okayama (Japan).
