Lumière Art Gallery is excited to welcome 2024 by hosting artworks by 12 senior students at the Fine Arts Faculty of the Cyprus University of Technology. The Gallery director, businesswoman, and artist Christina Drakos curates pro bono this new collective exhibition titled ΜΕΜ-ORIA: Exploring the Boundaries of Memory. The initiative is construed as an expression of the Gallery’s social contribution in response to the warm reception it has enjoyed from Limassol’s art afficionados within the span of one year and a half of its operation.
The question of memory and its limits is playfully mirrored in the Greek spelling of the Latin word MEM-ORIA, suggesting a shared journey into the complex interaction between personal and collective memories. In the landscape of common reminiscences, memory emerges as a force to be reckoned with, a shaper of identities and perceptions. Young creators use a variety of media from painting to multimedia installations to trace the tension between fluid memories and fixed limits of understanding.
Contained within the concept of memory, temporal limits are expanded in a way that enlarges the spectrum of memory, from a finite past to a present in the making and, more dynamically, to a future contemplated as fluid. As they release their memories from the borders of time, young visual artists invite spectators to measure up against the challenge of shared human experience, though without abolishing the value of individual perception.
Subtly reinterpreting memory and limits, the MEM-ORIA project is the latest to a series of fascinating exhibitions housed at Lumière Art Gallery in quest of boosting interaction between artists, art critics, and the wider public.

The exhibition will run from 5 to 20 January 2024. All proceeds will go to the artists.
