Lumière Contemporary Art Gallery is proud to present La Street c’est Chic, a new photographic project by Christina Drakos, an acclaimed and Internationally awarded photographer who holds the international title of E.FIAP (Excellent Artist Photographer) from the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP).
For more than 15 years, Drakos has traveled across Latin America, Europe, and Asia, capturing fleeting moments where walls became voices. From the favelas of Brazil to the alleyways of Paris, from the vibrant walls of Buenos Aires to the hidden corners of Bali and Singapore, her lens documents a living dialogue between artists and the public.
Street art, often created anonymously and sometimes at great personal risk, remains one of the most direct and powerful forms of expression in contemporary culture. It is at once fragile—exposed to weather, erasure, or being painted over—yet enduring in its impact. Frequently misunderstood or dismissed as vandalism, it nonetheless reflects political outcries, social commentaries, personal stories, and cultural identities. It crosses borders, languages, and ideologies, transforming the wall into a universal canvas of rebellion, humor, beauty, and truth.
In honor of this untamed spirit, Drakos presents her collection in an unconventional format. Instead of a traditional bound book, La Street c’est Chic appears as a box containing unbound photographs from many countries. The cover image, taken during the Rio Olympics at the famous Ethnicities Wall, sets the tone for what lies inside: a collection that is as free and unconfined as the art it depicts.
La Street c’est Chic is not simply an exhibition—it is a happening. A visual archive of voices that once spoke from the streets of the world, and which now find new resonance within the gallery walls.
