Goung-Mi Jegal was born in Daegu (South Korea). She moved to France to study English and French Literature, with a special focus in poetry, mainly the work of Paul Eluard and Philippe Jaccottet. Enamored with the country, she quickly decided to settle there.
Besides her love for literature and classical music, Mi has always had a keen interest in painting and drawing. She started her artistic journey 25 years ago, shortly after moving to France, taking painting and drawing classes at the Beaux-Arts in Aix-en-Provence and in Paris.
Her art is not only influenced by the rigor and harmony of classical music, but also by the authenticity of landscapes in the West of France. Her abstract art draws inspiration from the garden she has created over the years.
Taking a cue from the Beaux-Arts, she has developed a variety of different painting styles, with abstract being only a segment of her art.
Her artworks belong to several private collections.
